Should Massachusetts allow casinos and racetrack slot machines?

The state Senate approved a bill last week that would allow three casinos to be built in Massachusetts, but does not provide for slot machines at racetracks. A House bill, passed earlier, would allow for slots at the state's racetracks.

The two competing bills now go to a conference committee, which hopes to have a compromise bill on Gov. Deval Patrick's desk within 10 days.

Advocates for slots, led by House Speaker Robert DeLeon, say that racetracks are in danger of going out of business without them. But those supporting only casinos say slots can be more addictive than other forms of gambling, and that three casinos will generate $350 million a year, create 15,000 permanent jobs and 9,000 construction jobs.

Gambling opponents say this is the worst kind of economic development  that it promotes addiction, destroys families and leads to an increase in crime.

Should the state expand gambling to casinos? Should slots be included? Or is the state lottery enough gambling for Massachusetts?카지노사이트핫
